The compact Mac keyboard I’d pair with MX Master (Logitech MX Keys Mini for Mac)

I already wrote about the Keychron Q1 Pro as the mechanical 75% board I would buy for a permanent Mac desk. That is still true when I want switches and a gasket feel. This note is the other fork: a compact, Mac-layout Bluetooth keyboard that matches the MX Master 3S for Mac, travels in a bag, and does not fight macOS key placement.
The Logitech MX Keys Mini for Mac (Space Grey, ASIN B0CVFHYLBN) is the one I would buy for that job. Mid-ticket, usually around $97–$100 on Amazon US when I checked. This is a buying note from an engineer who works on a Mac, not a lab report. Specs below come from Logitech’s product page and the Amazon listing. I am not going to pretend I lived with this board for six months.

Why this particular Mini for Mac
There is a multi-OS MX Keys Mini (Graphite / Rose, dual legends) and a Mac-labelled Mini. The Mac listing (B0CVFHYLBN, MPN 920-012644) uses a true Mac key layout (Command / Option where your thumbs expect them), ships Space Grey to sit next to Apple aluminium and the MX Master 3S for Mac, and charges over USB-C. It is Bluetooth Low Energy first for macOS, iPadOS, and iOS — a Logi Bolt receiver is not in this box. It is not a mechanical keyboard — Perfect Stroke scissor-style keys with spherically dished caps — and that is the point when you want quiet apartment typing and a smaller footprint than a 75% board.
Headline specs from the listing and Logitech: about 11.65 × 5.19 × 0.82 in (roughly 296 × 132 × 21 mm), weight about 506 g, Li-Po rechargeable battery claiming up to 10 days with backlight on or up to about 5 months with backlight off, smart illumination that lights when hands approach, Easy-Switch across up to three Apple devices, plus Dictation / Emoji / Mic Mute smart keys that need Logi Options+ on Mac for the full story.
What I actually want from this compact Mac board
- Mac layout without guessing. Command and Option in the right places beat a Windows-first board with remapped stickers.
- Desk space next to a mouse. The mini width lets the MX Master 3S for Mac sit closer — less shoulder reach on a small Jakarta desk.
- Quiet enough for calls. Scissor keys are not silent, but they are not a loud mechanical thock either.
- Three-device hopping. MacBook, iPad, maybe a second Mac — one keyboard, Easy-Switch keys.
- USB-C top-ups. Same cable pile as the rest of a modern Mac desk.
It sits in the same desk story as the Anker 555 hub and the MX Master post. Hub, mouse, compact board: one Bluetooth Mac desk when I am not running the Keychron.
The honest caveats
No Touch ID. If fingerprint unlock on the keyboard is non-negotiable on an Apple Silicon Mac, Apple’s Magic Keyboard with Touch ID is still the only mainstream answer. Say that out loud before you buy.
Full smart-key behaviour and deeper remaps want Logi Options+. Without the app you still get a solid Bluetooth Mac keyboard; you do not get every productivity trick in the brochure.
Battery “up to 10 days / 5 months” is a lab-style claim. Leave the backlight bright all day and you will charge more often. Treat the numbers as ceilings.
Also: do not confuse this Mac Space Grey SKU with the multi-OS Graphite Mini. If you need Windows legends and a dual layout, buy that one instead. If you want a mechanical desk board, read the Keychron Q1 Pro note — different tool.
My honest buying call
I would buy the MX Keys Mini for Mac (Space Grey, B0CVFHYLBN) when the Amazon price is in its normal ~$97 band and I want a compact Mac-layout board that pairs cleanly with an MX Master and an iPad, without committing to a full mechanical setup. It is the Magic Keyboard alternative I would point a Mac engineer at when they care more about key feel and multi-device switching than Touch ID.
I would skip it if I need Touch ID on the keyboard, if I already love a mechanical 75% on the same desk and do not need a second board, or if I only want the cheapest Bluetooth slab for travel. For a permanent loud-and-proud typing desk, the Keychron path stays open.
